ABOUT US
Dr. Lisa Morrison is from Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. She graduated from Queen’s University in 2012 with a Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Life Sciences.
Dr. Tim Hynes was born and raised in Newfoundland. He attended Memorial University of Newfoundland and graduated in 2012 with a Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Biochemistry.
Dr. Morrison and Dr. Hynes met at the University of Waterloo, where they earned their Doctor of Optometry degrees and graduated on the Dean’s Honours List in 2016.
After graduation, Dr. Morrison and Dr. Hynes practiced in Newfoundland before relocating to Nova Scotia in 2018. They love living in the beautiful Annapolis Valley and happily established their practice and their family here.
In January 2022, their University of Waterloo classmate Dr. Cain Cottreau joined the practice as an associate optometrist, returning to his home province after several years of practicing in Ontario.
In August 2026, Orchard Optometry welcomed Dr. Tom Gillis as another associate optometrist. Dr. Gillis first worked at our practice as a student intern, and now joins us following his graduation from the University of Waterloo.
Drs. Hynes, Morrison, Cottreau, and Gillis look forward to welcoming new and returning patients in New Minas and Greenwood.

DR. TIM HYNES
Optometrist
Dr. Tim Hynes was born and raised in Newfoundland. He attended Memorial University of Newfoundland and graduated in 2012 with a Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Biochemistry. He graduated with a Doctor of Optometry degree from the University of Waterloo in 2016. As a student, he completed internships at Parkland Hospital in Dallas, Texas and at the FISH Clinic in Kingston, Jamaica.
Dr. Hynes is currently enrolled in a Masters of Science of Dermatology in Clinical Practice at the University of Buckingham, UK.
Dr. Hynes has previously served as Treasurer of the Nova Scotia Association of Optometrists. He also serves on committees for the Nova Scotia College of Optometrists.
Dr. Hynes is married to Dr. Morrison and they have two young children together. In his free time, Dr. Hynes enjoys running and has completed ultramarathons in Slovenia and England.
DR. LISA MORRISON
Optometrist
Dr. Lisa Morrison is from Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. She graduated from Queen's University in 2012 with a Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Life Sciences. Dr. Morrison graduated from the University of Waterloo in 2016 with a Doctor of Optometry degree. She was awarded the Dr. Margaret Hansen des Groseilleers Award for leadership as well as the O.S.I Award for Excellence in Practice Management.
Dr. Morrison currently serves as the President of the Nova Scotia Association of Optometrists.
Dr. Morrison is married to Dr. Hynes and they have two young children together. Dr. Morrison enjoys running and reading in her spare time.
DR. CAIN COTTREAU
Optometrist
Dr. Cain Cottreau was born and raised in Yarmouth, Nova Scotia, received his Bachelor of Science from Acadia University and graduated from the University of Waterloo School of Optometry in 2016. In his graduating year Dr. Cottreau also received the A. W. Cole Award for Clinical Excellence. During his time in school, Dr. Cottreau completed internships in Ontario, Nova Scotia and Atlanta, Georgia which gave him a thorough understanding of clinical optometric skills and the treatment and management of various eye disorders. Dr. Cottreau enjoys cooking and baking for friends and family, and in his spare time tries to work off those extra calories by running and cycling.
Dr. Cottreau spent 5 years practicing in Ontario and is very excited to be back living and working in his home province.
DR. TOM GILLIS
Dr. Tom Gillis was born and raised in Halifax, Nova Scotia. He earned a Bachelor of Science from Eastern Michigan University and a Master of Science in Biochemistry from Dalhousie University before completing his Doctor of Optometry degree at the University of Waterloo in 2026.
During his optometry training, Dr. Gillis completed clinical internships in Waterloo, downtown Halifax, and here in the Annapolis Valley with Orchard Optometry. Through this, he gained experience caring for patients of all ages and a wide variety of eye care needs. He also volunteered in rural Senegal, where he provided optometric services to underserved communities as part of an international outreach program. He was awarded the Dr. David McKenna Memorial Scholarship in recognition of his academic achievement, community involvement, and leadership skills.
Outside of the clinic, he enjoys spending time outdoors, hiking, surfing and reading. Dr. Gillis is thrilled to be back in his home province and looks forward to providing compassionate, comprehensive eye care to fellow Nova Scotians.

We often have student interns in our office and you may meet one when you visit for your eye examination. Student interns are in their fourth and final year of the Doctor of Optometry program and are gaining valuable clinical experience while being supervised by experienced optometrists.
FAQs
Do I need a driver for my appointment?
Maybe! We often use dilating eye drops to better assess eye health as part of a comprehensive exam. These drops make the pupils larger and leave you feeling sensitive to light. The effects can last for a few hours. Some patients find their vision a bit blurry afterwards, especially for reading. Sunglasses can help make driving after dilation more comfortable, but some patients will prefer to have a driver with them so they don't have to worry about it.
Can I get a copy of my glasses prescription?
All patients are provided with a copy of their prescription after their exam.
Do you direct bill my insurance?
We can direct bill many insurance plans. Please bring your policy information with you to your appointment. Not all plans allow direct billing or cover the full cost of the examination, so please check coverage with your insurance provider if you are unsure.
